I am about to install your Lightbest UV8 30 L/min steriliser in a house in Portugal where we have borehole water with a moderate amount of sediment. I am thinking of adding 2 sediment filters in series and have the following queries:
1.) what would be the best combination of filters ? I am thinking of 50 micron followed by 5 micron
2.) How much does each filter add to resistance, i.e. drop in water flow ?
3.) If flow rate is a potential problem, would 2 x 20 inch filters give better flow than 2 x 10 inch filters ?
4.) How much clearance is needed beneath a 20 inch filter to remove and change the filter ? I assume that this is not the full
5.) Why are the clear filters so much more expensive than the blue ones ? Do they offer any advantage apart from being
able to see the filter discolouration ?
many thanks for your help

Hi Brian, thanks for the questions, here are the answers:
1) what would be the best combination of filters ? I am thinking of 50 micron followed by 5 micron - this is doing to be a bit of trial and error. If you have a two stage instead of a single stage (or even a triple system) it will give you more scope to change the configuration. Certainly a 50 followed by a 5 would be a good option to start with.
2.) How much does each filter add to resistance, i.e. drop in water flow ? Very minimal I would guess a maximum of 5 psi standing pressure loss.
3.) If flow rate is a potential problem, would 2 x 20 inch filters give better flow than 2 x 10 inch filters? They would, but we have 4.5 x 20 Inch filters which would be the best option for the least impact on flow rate.
4.) How much clearance is needed beneath a 20 inch filter to remove and change the filter ? I assume that this is not the full 20 inches - you just need a couple of inches clearance from the floor to get the bowl off to change the filters.
5.) Why are the clear filters so much more expensive than the blue ones ? Do they offer any advantage apart from being able to see the filter discolouration? They offer the advantage of being able to see the filter condition without having to remove the bowl so very user friendly however we do not recommend them if the system will be exposed to daylight, but they are ok if in darkness.
